MAPOLY shines at WAPOGA

The investment of the Governor Gbenga Daniel administration in sports development, especially in tertiary institutions in Ogun State is now yielding positive results.
A testimony to this fact is the recent outstanding performance of the contingent of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta to the 2nd West African Polytechnic Games held in Yamoussoukro, Cote d’ Ivoire.
Team MAPOLY won seven gold, one silver and two bronze medals to place fifth in the fiesta which was attended by 39 polytechnics from different West African countries.
The team’s seven gold medals came from badminton and athletics.
The trio of Adekunle Idowu, Bamidele Fadipe, and Yahya Sulaimon won gold in the men’s team event in badminton, while the girls, Laide Badru, Ngozi Kalu, and Anu Ojo, recorded the same result in the women’s team event.
Idowu and Fadipe won gold in the men’s doubles, while Laide Badru and Ngozi Kalu were the queens in the women’s doubles.
Badru and Idowu combined to win gold in the mixed doubles while Laide did the institution proud by winning gold in the women’s singles.
The success story continued as Idowu handed over the silver medal to Yahya Sulaimon in the men’s singles to win the gold in an all – MAPOLY final.
In tennis, Monsuru Abiodun and Idowu Owolabi won bronze in the men’s doubles while another bronze medal was won by Laitan Oluwasegun in the 400 metres race.
